Angola is a large country in South-western part of Africa. It boders on Namibia in the South, Zambia on the East, Democratic Republic of Congo on the North-East and Congo Republic on the North.
Angola long time was the colony of Portugal and then after the Independence was for a long time in Civil war, which ruined this rich country. So only in a few last years country is showing good growth and as result the improvement and growth of tourism to this big country with a lot of potential.
Angola has a lot of different deposits and is standing on a second position today for delivering crude oil in Africa.
Climate is tropical and mild. Waters of Atlantic ocean are warm. The country has a lot of natural water which feeds forth largest river of Africa - Zambezi. Credit CARDS: Credit Cards VISA and MASTER CARD are accepted only in big hotels and large shops and supermarkets..
Foreign Exchange: In Angola you can not use foreign currency in shops. Please exchange your currency to Kwanza. The offices of Foreign exchange are presented in all airports and in main shopping centers. But please remember that the black market for currency exchange is still strong and you will be offered much better exchange rate then in the bank. Just be careful when changing the money on the street.
Tips: In Angola common to pay tips. In restaurants 5 - 10% of the bill, to porter around 1 $ per piece of luggage, to your private guide around 10-15 $ per day and to bus driver of your tourist bus is around 2-3 $ per day per tourist.
Electricity: 220 Volts with European 2 pin plug. In all hotels you can find 2 pin plugs and adaptors.
Drinking water: We do not recommend to you to drink tap water in Angola. Please buy water to drink from the shops and supermarkets.
Car rental: In Angola driving is done on the right side of the road. Speed limit in towns is 60 km per hour and on highways is 120 km per hour. For car rental you will need to present your drivers licence and your credit card. Rental locations are situated mostly in Luanda and there is still a difficulty to rent a car, which you can drive out of Luanda. Please check with your rental company Condition of the Rental.
